On Holiday in Portugal? Ideas for this Week

If you are on holiday in Portugal this week, here are some things to see and do in the Algarve.
Visit your local tourist office for more information on this weeks events.

Monday 28th July

A visit to Fiesa 2008 (sand sculpture festival) is a must.
Situated in Pera, Algarve , Portugal, this huge event is open every day from 10.00am until midnight. This years theme is hollywood.
Visit during the day and return at night to see the sculptures lit, all on the same ticket.





Tuesday 29th July

Tonight sees Diana Krall play at Albufeira Marina from 10.00pm

Wednesday 30th July















If educational tours are your thing then you can discover the Ria Formosa by boat
with natura-algarve.com
They operate five and a half hour trips with lunch included for 60€ per person.
They take you to the barrier (sand dune) islands of Armona, Culatra and Barreta.
Other tours have a birdwatching or fishing history bias, the choise is yours.
If you do go I would advise you to take the following:
  • A hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Some water
  • Swim wear

Thursday 31st July



Rythm of the dance runs until the 31st of August at the fabrica do ingles (the old cork factory) in Silves. This 90 minute show features Irish music and dance and starts at 10.15pm each evening. There are bars, cafes and a muesem

Saturday 2nd August and Sunday 3rd August

If you would like to see some of the real Algarve this weekend then today and tomorrow you can see it, taste it, hear it and drink it at Cortelha, near Sailr (which is north of Loule) at this traditional mountain fair with folklore costumes from all over Portugal, foods, crafts, music, dancing and much more.

Tuesday 15th July

Wednesday 16th July














Its market day in Quarteira today, and its one of the biggest in Algarve, so if you fancy a little bargain hunting for leather goods, ceramics, clothes etc., followed by a little grilled chicken, this could fit the bill.

Thursday 17th July
















Today is the start of the 27th Faro Motorcycle Meeting at Estrada da Praia, Faro. This event runs through until Sunday and is the biggest in Europe. Live bands are scheduled every night and you can see just about every type of bike, chopper, trike, etc.


If you do not go to the meeting itself, bikes parade around Faro marina area during the day and night. This is a huge event and adds to a day out exploring Faro town centre.


Friday 18th July












The Sheraton Pine Cliff, Albufeira plays host to the Doors tribute band, Riders on the storm, tonight from 10.00pm. Tickets available from ticketline.pt

Sunday 20th July
















Folklore in Moncarapacho. The hillside town shows traditional folklore costumes, dancing, etc.

Things start at 18.00 with arts, crafts, trades and gastronomy, followed at 22.00 by the festival of folklore. Things wrap up at around 01.00
